Download Festival 2024 – Saturday. If Tom Morello hasn’t already got enough on his plate as a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and political activist, then he can add dominating the Opus stage to the list.
The renowned ex-Rage Against The Machine musician brought his solo work to Download with a sterling bunch of musicians to fill the gaps of his countless recorded collaborations.
Let’s Get The Party Started (originally featuring Bring Me The Horizon) smashes through the crowd along with Hold The Line and the rest of his top-tier tracks from the years gone by.
To appreciate Morello’s mastery of music, you really have to see it live.
He whips up a concoction of intricate guitar playing and manipulation of instruments to create his signature sound. Thoughts like, ‘I swear that sound must have been done post-production,’ ring through my head as he contorts his fingers around his instrument with ease.
But it was more than just a show, especially, I can imagine, for Morello.
News came shortly after the Barclay’s announcement that he had been working behind the scenes to get the bank dropped as a sponsor of Download.
The taste of success must have been sweet.
