Download Festival 2024 – Saturday. Due to one last thundering shower of the day, the Slaughter To Prevail set was slightly delayed. But the eminent Deathcore band were howlingly terrifying in all the right ways.
Front guttural screamer Alex Terrible was a vision of glottal glory as he strode around the stage, an all-encompassing deep Metal menace. His vocal abilities are something unworldly, so to hear them live and see the figure behind the voice stand statuesque in front of the wailing Download crowds is now an inescapable impressive moment of the weekend.
The rest of the band donned their horned masks, the theatrics of their performance lending itself to the intricacies of the music.
It is fast. It is furious. It makes you breathless but somehow wanting more.
With the sun starting to come out, Slaughter To Prevail grabs Download by the collar and launches it back up into a high-energy frenzy. Though the floor is now pure mud, it does not stop the pit from opening into a delightfully brutal circle of death.
Egged on by the band, the entirety of the front and centre begin to whirl around to the double kick-drum deliria.
Muddy, filthy Metal has got to be the best.

Download Festival 2024 will mark the second year of the festival selling out, with weekend, day and camping tickets now completely gone. The festival will reunite its incredible community of fans for a jam-packed five-day event (June 12-16).
