Download Festival 2024 – Saturday. If you have seen Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes live, then you can understand why the words ‘holy effing hell’ come out of my mouth when describing their performance on the Apex stage this afternoon.
If you have never seen Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes live, then just believe me when I tell you there is no performance more ferociously animated than this.
Carter himself is a diamond with the rough. Slicked back hair, a pink cardigan and a gold chain – which someone managed to steal from him mid-crowd dive – and a penchant for hammering himself into every word sung and every move made.
A band that has moved up through the Download ranks is now deservingly at the top of this festival’s registry. Punk-rock never tasted so damn good.
Carter throws himself quite literally at the crowd, embracing every aspect of his genre’s influences. Carter’s other band half – multi-instrumentalist Dean Richardson – gives it his all as the grandeur of playing this kind of festival slot is well and truly felt.
It is insatiably energetic and the ultimate Download 2024 appearance.
