Hellfest Festival 2024, Clisson. Thursday, 27 June. Opening with The Sick The Dying… And The Dead!, Megadeth are clearly taking no prisoners at Hellfest this evening.
Megadeth
“Are you feeling good,” asks Dave Mustaine smiling. “This will make you feel better.” Tornadoes Of Souls follows, and from then on, it’s a flawless greatest hits set, with Symphony Of Destruction followed by Peace Sells.
The entire band is on fire tonight, and special credit must be given to Drummer Dirk Van Beuren, whose speed and force behind the drum kit are mesmerising.
A brief pause between songs leads to a standing ovation for Dave Mustaine, who is visibly touched by the reaction. “We really want to thank you guys for being here,” he says.
Ending with Holy Wars (The Punishment Due), Megadeth leaves the stage to tremendous roars from the crowd. A superb set.
Ice Nine Kills
Their brand of horror-themed Metal is far from original, but Ice Nine Kills has enough energy to get the crowd going. As the evening temperatures are coming down, they have their fair share of crowd surfers flying towards the front of the second mainstage.
