Hellfest Festival 2024, Clisson. Thursday, 27 June. As the stage lights start to glow and the Wes Lang grim reaper artwork slowly floods the screens, the sense of excitement for Avenged Sevenfold is electric.
Avenged Sevenfold
Avenged Sevenfold begin their set with a pair of songs from their latest album, Life Is But A Dream, Game Over and Mattel. Tonight’s setlist focuses on their new material with the greatest hits woven in.
It’s a brave and incredibly rewarding movement from such a massive band who are constantly pushing the boundaries of Heavy Metal.
Not only is their new music defying the conventional, but their stage show has evolved to a dizzying level. Real-time AI filters transform and twist the band’s image from skeletons to ghosts to plastic models. It’s brilliantly unnerving and matches the themes the new album explores perfectly.
Hail To The King is dedicated to Megadeth by M Shadows, and Save Me is dedicated to the memory of The Rev. Ending with the gorgeous Cosmis, M Shadows vows that the band will return soon for longer headline shows.
Their set tonight was nothing short of a triumph of artistic daring and bravery. Truly superb.
