Ignea Command Bloodstock With A Phenomenal Saturday Set

Bloodstock Festival 2024 – Saturday. Switching from the Black Metal of Deitus to a more melodic yet still heavy sound, it is Ukraine band Ignea up next. The quintet is new to many, but such is the appetite for new music that the sold-out day crowd are lapping everything up as it comes to them.

A Ukraine flag flutters at the front of the stage as the band launch into Dunes, one of three from recent album Dreams Of Lands Unseen. It’s singer Helle Bogdanova who confidently strides on to pick up vocals that captures immediate attention. She’s another female singer with that ability to switch between soaring cleans and guttural roars.

Evgeny Zhytnyuk is prominent, adding his keytar to the mix alongside guitarist Dimitry Vinnichenko. They trade chords and melodies but show a harder edge throughout. This is a band not here to muck about.

Bogdanova is prominent, urging support and generally demanding more from the crowd. They respond to Camera Obscura and remain engaged for the rest of the show.

Helle’s vocal prowess is unquestionable, both styles working in harmony with the music. It is a phenomenal show, one that pulls you in for a closer look and then finds you unwilling to leave, as they combine the symphony.

A final flurry of Alexandria and Leviathan sees the band receive huge roars from the crowd, including a few from their own countrymen.

It is impressive and well-deserved for a band who are slowly building their own momentum.
