Deitus Delivers a Fierce Black Metal Wake-Up Call at Bloodstock

Bloodstock Festival 2024 – Saturday. It may be bright sunshine, but London’s Black Metal outfit Deitus are in no mood for sunglasses and ice cream. This is serious stuff, and as their intro bursts forth from the PA across Catton Hall early on a Saturday morning, the intensity on the faces of those on stage is somewhat intimidating.

Guitarist Kieran Dawes and Shayan look positively irritated, their stern faces suggesting that the crowd have had the audacity to steal their morning coffee.

But joking aside, this is a focus which is needed to deliver a blistering set that opens with Incursion, one of three from 2023’s Irreversible album.

It’s an intense barrage of bruising, high tempo riffing and ferocious drumming which is waking those with sleep in the eyes rather quickly.

Vocalist A hits the stage, drenched in blood and an insane look in his eyes.

We get 40 minutes of brutal Black Metal that cures morning hangovers quickly. It’s completed by a GG Allin cover, the excellent Bite It You Scum.

Gone in the blink of an eye, Deitus raise the Black Metal flag and make a clear statement.
