Download Festival 2024 – Sunday. Corey Taylor. As far as band-members-turned-solo acts go, Corey Taylor is one of a kind as he carves his own way up through the heavy music ranks. The Slipknot frontman recently dropped two albums to critical acclaim and has already dominated some heftier UK venues.
So, how was he received at Download? With facepalming approval.
Standing unmasked and ready, Taylor is the epitome of a hungry musician with everything to gain, even though he already stands as one of the industry’s most respected artists.
He is both energetic and staunch, his time as a faceless performer now turned on its head as we get to see every beaming smile and guitar chug bass face he throws out.
Taylor and his band serve the Opus stage well with a concoction of hard-riding tracks. The chocolatey-muddy cocktail that was before drenching the ground has started to dry, lending well to a good bit of moshing.
Seeing Taylor in his element as a solo artist who revelled in the incredible atmosphere Download offers was truly a treat.
As the show raged, Fred Durst conducted the thousands from the Apex stage as Limp Bizkit brought 1999 Woodstock to Donington Park.
Beer was thrown, and punters jumped high.
But then again, it was just one of those days.
