Download Festival 2024 – Sunday. The multilayered Metal set of Shadow Of Intent was another thing to behold. Ben Duerr’s low-pitched scream is something you have to see to believe what is heard, and with the backing of musicians like Chris Wiseman on guitar, the Dogtooth stage became locked in its timeless bubble, encased in the most thundering Deathcore lock-in you have ever experienced.
What makes Shadow Of Intent stand out is the delicate piano and electronic features they slide in, which somehow make the tracks even more menacingly and beautifully brutal.
The Heretic Prevails was an especially heart-pounding trip into the world that this Conneticut-based band created. Without needing anything but their double-kick drum, soul-pummelling music to draw in the crowds, these guys have an almost orchestral backdrop to their songs.
When the compositions are this good, and the execution is well done, Shadow Of Intent must return to the UK soon to send more shock-waves through the core of our souls.
On the last day of the weekend, it is just what we need for a big re-launch of energy to keep going for the hours that remain.
