Angela Merkel has just made an announcement in Germany regarding major events in the country. This is a translation of a paragraph about it on a German news website.
Merkel told German news: “Major events in Germany should not take place before 31 August. This means, for example, that football matches are never played with an audience. And the festival summer with events like ‘Rock am Ring’ or ‘Wacken Open Air’ is at least history for this year. Theaters should also remain closed.”
While the first Coronavirus infections in Germany and UK emerged at the same time, Germany reacted swiftly shutting down the country on 16 March, while the UK was late out of the gates, moving slower on the introduction of social distancing measures.
The UK did not match shutdown steps in Germany until seven days later – 23 March.
