Iceland’s powerhouse blues rock band KALEO are celebrating their 10th anniversary with a jaw-dropping new concert film, Kaleo: Viva Roma – In The Shadow Of The Colosseum, streaming now worldwide on StagePlayer+.
Captured in stunning cinematic detail and produced by Vertigo Live, the film documents the band’s once-in-a-lifetime performance set against the epic backdrop of Rome’s legendary Colosseum.
More than just a live show, it is a visual chronicle of the band’s journey so far, culminating in a spellbinding set that leans into their gritty blues, rock and Delta-blues-inspired sound.
The concert, filmed on 2 March 2024, finds KALEO delivering fan favourites including the global smash Way Down We Go, Lonely Cowboy and No Good as night falls over one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The timeless stone arches of the ancient amphitheatre provide a hauntingly beautiful backdrop to the band’s raw energy.
KALEO’s reach now stretches far beyond their Icelandic roots. The band boast over 16 million monthly Spotify listeners and more than 6 billion streams worldwide, with Way Down We Go joining the Spotify Billions Club and featuring in hit TV shows such as Yellowstone, Grey’s Anatomy, Lucifer, Suits and The Blacklist, as well as FIFA and Madden NFL soundtracks.
The track has also become a viral favourite, appearing in more than 3.4 million TikTok videos. Vocalist JJ has even taken their sound to Manchester United’s Old Trafford, performing a stirring version of Country Roads.
Never a band to settle for ordinary stages, KALEO have previously performed inside the dormant Icelandic volcano Thrihnukagigur, on a floating iceberg in the glacial lagoon Fjallsarlon and at the remote Thridrangaviti lighthouse perched high above the Atlantic Ocean. The Colosseum show is the latest chapter in this tradition of spectacular settings.
“Doing the videos we’ve done in Iceland, in beautiful nature, the next step was going to historical places,” JJ says, “and the Colosseum was top of my list. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s such a special show to have immortalised on film, and we can’t wait to share it with our fans.”
