Download Festival 2023 – Sunday. After 30 years, Behemoth are an institute in their own right. Having been pivotal in establishing the Polish underground Extreme Metal scene, they know who they are, we know who they are, and on Sunday at Download 2023, they brought us exactly what we wanted and needed.
Dressed in their usual deathly terrifying occult attire, Behemoth were the absolute epitome of everything they are as a band on The Apex stage this afternoon. Frontman Nergal pauses halfway through to thank Download before launching back into the band’s signature Death Metal snares with The Deathless Sun.
Pyrotechnics rife, fire is blazed up across Nergal’s presence, proving you don’t have to be a headliner to chuck a whole load of memorable Death Metal pizzazz in there.
By the amount of sweaty Behemoth T-shirts I see walking around, the band continue to mount a huge following across the globe and are a big reason why they take on the main stage with ease, putting on a thelemic show reminding us why after all these years we still love and could never get enough of the mighty Behemoth.
