In 2013, Caleb Shomo began turning his struggles with mental health and self-image into music. Beartooth started as a personal diary of repressed anger and sadness, with Caleb recording songs in his basement studio, playing all the instruments himself. He had no plans to return to heavy music, which had troubled him during his teenage years.
Fast forward ten years, and Beartooth’s fifth album, The Surface, marks the end of this era in 2023. It also signals a new beginning filled with unexpected optimism. Caleb knows that depression is a tough and relentless battle, but he’s ready to face it head-on and find some light in his life.
