Very sad news this afternoon… Former Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr who played on the legendary band’s first three albums has passed away.
Clive had been suffering from Multiple Sclerosis for several years and passed away at his home last night (12th March) aged 56.
His former bandmates have been quick to pay tribute, with Steve Harris saying: Clive was a very old friend of all of us. He was a wonderful person and an amazing drummer who made a valuable contribution to Maiden in the early days when we were starting out.
Frontman Bruce Dickinson added: He was a great guy and a man who really lived his life to the full. Even during the darkest days of his M.S., Clive never lost his sense of humour or irreverence. This is a terribly sad day and all our thoughts are with Mimi and the family.
A statement on the Official Maiden website said: We are deeply saddened to report that Clive Burr passed away last night. He had suffered poor health for many years after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and died peacefully in his sleep at home.
Former Maiden singer Paul Di’Anno, who performed with Clive on the first two Maiden albums, said: “Terribly sad news that my old mate, drummer and brother Clive Burr has passed away. He will be misssed so much by everyone he touched.
Lea Hart, who enlisted Clive into his successful True Brits project in the 90s said: Clive Burr was not only an amazing drummer, but a lovely man and friend too. R.I.P. Clive…
