Queen / Legendary Budapest 1986 Concert Comes To The Roundhouse

Queen’s landmark 1986 Budapest concert will be reimagined as a one-day live screening experience at London’s Roundhouse on Saturday 3 October 2026. Presented by Playback Live in collaboration with Sony Music Vision, Queen Budapest will combine the newly restored concert film with a giant LED screen, full surround sound and synchronised lighting. Two performances will take place ahead of the film’s wider cinema and IMAX release.

The event is designed to recreate the shared energy of a live Queen show, with the audience able to stand, dance and experience the remastered performance in an active concert environment.

Original memorabilia from the Queen archive will be displayed during a pre-film DJ set. The event will also feature photo opportunities, an exclusive merchandise pop-up and bars open throughout.

The film captures Queen performing We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, A Kind Of Magic, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Under Pressure, Who Wants To Live Forever, Hammer To Fall and Bohemian Rhapsody, alongside an acoustic arrangement of the traditional Hungarian song Tavaszi Szél Vizet Áraszt.

Filmed at Budapest’s Népstadion on 27 July 1986 during The Magic Tour, the show was the first Western stadium Rock concert staged behind the Iron Curtain. Queen played to a sold-out crowd of 80,000, while an estimated 45,000 more people listened outside the stadium.

It was also Queen’s final filmed live performance with Freddie Mercury. The band played only five more concerts, ending The Magic Tour at Knebworth House on 9 August 1986, in a performance which was filmed, but, as Knebworth House custodian Henry Lytton Cobbold told MetalTalk, “Nobody pressed record on Freddie Mercury’s last ever live performance.”

The original 35mm Budapest footage has been restored in 4K by Sir Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production facility in New Zealand. The audio has been newly remixed from the original multitrack recordings by Queen’s studio team.

The film will open in cinemas and IMAX worldwide from 7 October through Trafalgar Releasing. A multi-format release will follow through Legacy Recordings on 30 October, including Blu-ray, DVD, CD, digital editions and a three-LP vinyl set.
