With a new album, Motorheart, set for 19 November 2021 via Cooking Vinyl, The Darkness will also tour the UK through November and December. Support comes from Steve Harris and his British Lions.
The band have released the latest track from the new album. Jussy’s Girl oozes the ’80s riffs, which we have come to love from The Darkness.
“Jussy’s Girl is a song about unrequited desires of both the flesh and the heart,” Justin Hawkins told us, “although one could argue that hearts are made out of the same stuff as flesh. You know what I mean, though.
“It’s about an unspeakable longing but sounds like a bloke walking around in his 501s on a sunny day. It’s sad but also carefree.
“Sonically, we were aiming for somewhere between Def Leppard and Billy Ocean. Well, I was. There’s a helicopter in it and an awesome guitar solo. What more could you ask for?”
Earlier, the track Nobody Can See Me Cry was released – check out the guitar solo. “It’s devastating,” Justin said. “I yearn to be seen. On this, I’ll settle for being heard. Listen to this song. It’s brilliant. I should know. I sang it.”
The first track released was the title track, Motorheart, which “rocks harder than anything we’ve done before,” Justin said. “It makes me happy and proud to crank it up and literally shake my Swiss chalet to its foundations.
“Dan did an awesome job on the production, it’ll take your face off, but your skull will be grinning from meatus to meatus. Please, to enjoy.”
