Saxon have promised to play the entire Wheels Of Steel album from start to finish, in the correct order, for one last time when they return for their Hell, Fire and Steel UK Tour in November 2025. The tour will also feature Udo Dirkschneider, who will play the classic Accept album Balls to the Wall in full.
“We first toured with UDO and Accept in the U.S.A on our Crusader tour,” Biff Byford said, “and have done lots of stuff together since. But we have never toured the UK together, so this is gonna be epic.
Balls To The Wall And Wheels Of Steel under the same roof? It is going to be something really special to witness. Bring it on!”
Recorded in February 1980 and released on 3 April 1980, Wheels Of Steel was Saxon’s second album. It peaked at Number 5 in the UK album chart and would achieve Gold Record status less than one year after its release.
The album was considered an instant classic by many, and the tour, along with the Strong Arm Of The Law tour later that year, would ensure that the band’s name would live on. With the band’s recent album and live shows being consumed with glee by Metal fans, Saxon still induces a thrill over forty years later.
“I can’t see anyone being disappointed with this set,” MetalTalk’s LIz Medhurst said of this year’s Saxon Stonedead Festival show. “It was a brilliant showcase of a long and honourable career.”
Their Hell Fire And Damnation album was a success, with songs like There’s Something In Roswell showing a revitalised Saxon at their storytelling Metal best.
Biff Byford told MetalTalk he was “pretty fit” and excited for the subsequent tour, which was a well-travelled success.
The Hell, Fire and Steel tour kicks off in Belfast on 4 November 2024 on the first of ten dates. Tickets are on sale now and are available from here.
