Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp to release new studio album, 18, in July

Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp will release their album 18 on 15 July 2022. The 13-track collection includes two Depp original compositions. The first single, This Is A Song For Miss Hedy Lamarr, is available to watch below.

“When Johnny and I started playing together,” Jeff Beck says, “it really ignited our youthful spirit and creativity. We would joke about how we felt 18 again so that just became the album title too.”

Beck and Depp bonded when they first met in 2016, and their chemistry, over cars and guitars, convinced Beck that the pair should make an album.

“It’s an extraordinary honour to play and write music with Jeff,” Johnny Depp said. “One of the true greats and someone I am now privileged enough to call my brother.”

Depp, who has toured with the Hollywood Vampires, recorded two studio albums with the band that featured guest appearances from a number of rock greats, Beck included.

Depp asked Beck to play lead on a tune he had written, 18’s first single, This Is A Song For Miss Hedy Lamarr, a homage to the actress/inventor. “I was blown away by it,” Beck says. “That song is one of the reasons I asked him to make an album with me.”

Beck says he and Depp challenged each other to leave their comfort zones with the songs they chose to cover. “I haven’t had another creative partner like him for ages,” Beck says. “He was a major force on this record. I just hope people will take him seriously as a musician because it’s a hard thing for some people to accept that Johnny Depp can sing rock and roll.”
