The Swedish Crust/Death Metal juggernaut Industrial Puke return with their second album, Alive To No Avail, following on from their 2023 debut full-length Born Into The Twisting Rope. They continue to focus on creating short, strong songs with direct riffs and direct expressions of anger, maintaining a straightforward approach. This results in an album that surpasses even their own expectations.

Industrial Puke have certainly pushed their limits a little further with this new offering. I loved the predecessor, but with this album, they have definitely upped their game.
Like its predecessor, Alive To No Avail is another short, sharp and to-the-point offering. Twelve tracks, all unleashed under the sheer force of a combined blast of Death Metal, Hardcore and Crust Punk energy spanning a compact twenty-eight minutes.
With only two tracks crossing the three-minute mark, the aim is to drag listeners out of the monotony of everyday life and provide an uncompromising outlet for raw emotions and frustrations. Something we need more than ever these days.
Opening with Daily Chest Pain, which has a lovely crunchy Napalm Death feel as it opens, it is a catchy beast that bounces along. The shouty vocals are bolstered as always by chanting backing vocals. There is an excellent swathe of lead work in the second half that really elevates the piece.
Following on with Hoax-Mongers, this high-energy, driving beast with a galloping d-beat at its core features guest vocals from Lars Broddesson of HILD/ ex: Marduk. The track looks at how “the world we live in refuses to quit praising people unfit to lead the sheep. No matter if it’s a benzo fuelled professor with a Messiah complex or the original mad swindler of Nazareth. Too many of us are still desperate to be herded off the cliffs by hoax-mongers.” A powerful message set to a catchy as hell tune.
The next piece, Flaccid Provider, charges along with brutal determination, unlike the inspiration behind the lyrics, who has clearly fallen short of the mark as far as Industrial Puke are concerned. Here, angry vocals meet fast crusty riffs and an unrelenting drum battery. The direction shifts midway, and the pace drops, allowing a filthy groove to develop, ramping up to a squealing burst of leadwork. Another great piece.
I love the powerful bounce to Skid Textures. Sound-wise, it careers around with reckless abandon, making it catchy as hell. One of my favourite pieces on this album, in contrast, is title track, Alive To No Avail, a straightforward frontal assault to your senses. Even when it pares back in pace midway, it’s still a full-on sensory assault. It is superb.
The longest piece on the album is The Regretful Climb at over four minutes duration. It takes a different approach, manifesting as a slow, heavy builder that gradually gathers speed but never to the pace of its predecessors. I love the ominous atmosphere to this piece. It still has the signature Industrial Puke sound but with slower, darker intent. A hugelyengaging piece.
The only other piece on the album to pass the three-minute mark, just, is Strangled From The Inside. A d-beat rich, filthy, frantic driver, it is an exciting listen that delivers an exhilarating Hardcore vibe. Angry lead vocals are bolstered by chanting backing vocals. The pace drops slightly towards the close, where it becomes puncher and groovier in equal measure. It is absolutely superb.
Next up, Nothing More To Give is a full-throttle brutally driving assault on your senses that radiates angry energy. I love the shouty build at the end, which leaves you feeling exhilarated. It is followed by Inverted, which is a master class in the short sharp shock, delivering a high-speed aural assault from start to finish. Sixty-one seconds of well-filled space.
Like many predecessors, Rational Asshole courses along at an insane pace. The vocal screams punch their way through. Midway, it drops and develops a filthy, groovy chug with the vocals still punching through. A short piece that still manages to deliver two hugely engaging halves.
Industrial Puke say that the title of the next track, Biblical Corpse, “paraphrases what reactionary lunatics like to reference the collected works surrounding the bible as (the biblical corpus). An unclever modernized way of justifying the taking of moral ques from folklore and delusional mythology. Most popular among quasi academics and self-help professors of bullshitology.
“Unfortunately, too many follow these saviours/enslavers down any putrid sinkhole in search of community and self-worth.” It is a darker beast with a decidedly Metal core, a hugely engaging groove and a fascinatingly bizarre mid-point interlude, made even better by a superb swathe of second-half leadwork. All of which sits so well alongside thosepredominantly Hardcore-style screams and backing chants. Another favourite piece for me.
The final piece Average Dicks rounds the album off with one final d-beat driver. Coursing its way along like a runaway truck, it is catchy, punchy and it is going to run you over because you just can’t resist it. This is especially true of the closing chants, which get higher and screamier.
With Alive To No Avail, Industrial Puke once again, get in, get the job done and get out again, whilst having a lot of fun doing so. This is reflected hugely in the music, making Alive To No Avail a well-varied and engaging listen end to end.
Industrial Puke release Alive To No Avail on 28 March 2025 via Suicide Records. It will be available as a vinyl release or digital download from BandCamp.
