Hatebreed At Bloodstock, Quite Simply Awesome And Phenomenal

Bloodstock Festival 2024 – Friday. If there was one set over the weekend that was eagerly awaited by fans, then this was it, and that was clear by the massive influx of Hatebreed fans into the arena for this set.

Catton Park, Derbyshire – Friday 9 August 2024

Hatebreed

Celebrating their thirty years together, this was always going to be an intense celebration of all things Hatebreed, and the introduction tape of Metal celebrities congratulating them on their time together bore witness to their popularity and long-lasting appeal.

Once the music started, we knew that we were in for an intense, hyped-up, over-the-top Hatebreed performance with no barriers or safety net. The mosh and circle pits opened up from the first chord, getting wider and wider as more of the faithful threw themselves into the heaving mix.

With frontman Jamey Jasta driving the band forward, they unleashed a torrent of blistering Hardcore Metal. Opening with To The Threshold, the intent was clear as the band applied a scorched earth policy to the gathered masses.

There was a direct brutality to the aural onslaught of Empty Promises as Frank Novinec and Wayne Lozinak on guitars ripped ferocious solos out of their bleeding instruments. Matt Byrne, on drums, provided a hammering intensity from his drum kit, and Chris Beattie, on bass, glued the whole mesmerising performance together.

Reaching out to their brothers in Metal, they dropped in a cover of Slayers Ghosts Of War, dedicating it to the Thrash Titans.

There was no holding back Hatebreed or the rapid-fire haranguing of Jasta, and they soared through song after song, wringing every drop of angst and emotion from the pieces. Tear It Down, Proven and Perseverance were ripped through, and a heart-bleeding Honor Never Dies had the audience in raptures.

When in full flow, there is nothing quite like the dynamic Metal machine that is Hatebreed and performing for the BOA faithful they could do no wrong. This was almost a spiritual homecoming from New York’s finest, and the effort that the band brought to the stage was only matched by the sweat-dripping hordes worshipping at their Metal altar.

With a final song and an all-round audience singalong to I Will Be Heard, the set was over. This was clearly one of the most intensive, interactive sets of the weekend and it should be of no surprise that Hatebreed took no prisoners and the Metal hordes were willing lambs to the Heavy Metal slaughter.

Quite simply awesome and phenomenal.
