DeVere To Ignite London’s Lower Third With Download Festival Fervor

DeVere, who kicked up a Download Festival 2024 Thursday night storm, play London’s The Lower Third, Denmark Street, on 27 June 2024. They were a late call-up to this years Donington show, and on the face of this and the few shows they have played to date, they are a band at the top of the must-see list.

“We just came out of a great show at Download Festival, which I’m currently still buzzing from,” guitarist Mike Wroe told MetalTalk in a soon to be released interview. “But we’re playing a show this week at The Lower Third, which I’m very, very, very excited about. I would say that’s my peak of excitement right now.”

DeVere crashed into the airwaves last year with the release of their debut single, Again. Having amassed over 76,000 YouTube views, this is a thing of genius. Capturing that live feel in a studio is one of the more difficult tasks, and DeVere is one band that has worked incredibly hard to achieve that.

With Again set to be another summer anthem in 2024, it’s the perfect example of how DeVere have bottled the attitude of ’80s Metal and pushed it into the 2020s.

This is an impressive lineup with four very talented musicians. Like Lightning, the second single, has that Hells Bells tease-style extended intro before the vocals kick in.

With Mike Wroe, it is fair to say that I’ve not felt that excited about discovering a new guitarist since I first came across Dirty Honey’s John Notto. But all four musicians shine on this song. Maybe an album opener? This is sure to be a cool live song, too.

The haunting and moody Dead Before I Die follows. Here is a song that really showcases Sam Cassidy’s great vocals. Bassist Will Vaughan and drummer George Love once again throw down a sublime rhythm. Once again, check out that wonderful guitar solo.

The fourth single, Surrender, is only three weeks out but has already hit over 47,000 YouTube plays. George Love gets to count the band in, and then we launch on a rip-roaring, up-tempo, explosive belter.

“It’s always the next thing that’s coming in for me,” Sam Cassidy told us when asked what was exciting him. This means we roll on to Thursday at The Lower Third. “Download was awesome, but I’m excited about Thursday,” he says.

There is much to announce as we await news of an EP or an album. But it is guaranteed that there will be much more to come from DeVere.

One thing that strikes those who see the band live is their dedication to providing a show. Those working Marshalls will be on stage in Denmark Street, and MetalTalk will be at the bar. Tickets are available from here.

“With all the shows coming up, things are really moving now,” Cassidy says, “and it’s really exciting. So, yeah, I feel like a real band.”
