Carnivore Diprosopus / A Savage Return Of Colombian Death Metal

“The day of destruction has arrived when your order and your systems of control collapse and fall in ruins. The time of chaos is now as the old world dies in flames and a hail of gunfire. The bloated body of your corporate domination will be torn asunder, and your opulent palaces of sneering self-satisfaction will be washed away in a tidal wave of blood.

“The world will be reborn, screaming beneath the caterpillar tracks of the war machine. This is a new age of warfare; this is the rise of the insurrection!”

Carnivore Diprosopus – Rise Of The Insurrection (Comatose Music)

Release Date: 9 August 2024

Words: Jools Green

A warning reflecting our current times? Thankfully, not just yet. It means that the Colombian Brutal Death Metallers Carnivore Diprosopus are back with their fourth bone-crushing full-length Rise Of The Insurrection.

Carnivore Diprosopus – Rise Of The Insurrection - Album cover
Carnivore Diprosopus – Rise Of The Insurrection – This album delivers relentless brutality in true Colombian Death Metal style.

It’s been a while, eleven years to be precise, since Condemned By The Alliance assaulted our senses. So prepare to have them brutally destroyed because Carnivore Diprosopus have upped their game since that offering.

With Rise Of The Insurrection, they have maintained their uncompromising level of brutality in true Colombian style delivering once again a sound that is brutal but engaging, rammed with slams and breakdowns. There is one blast from the past included as a bonus track at the end of the release, but more about that later.

Aside from that bonus track lyrically, they have continued to move away from their early release topics of sex, perversion, and sickness in favour of a sci-fi-style war-torn soundscape. But fear not. There is still plenty in this offering to keep the brutality aficionados out there happy.

This challenging but worthwhile, thirty-two-minute blast of ear-destroying madness opens on the tantalising intro Insurrection Ordinance, where ominous rolling riffs and drum blasts initiate the aural assault in readiness for the ground-shaking protracted growls.

It may only be the intro, but it leaves you chomping at the bit for more, which arrives in the shape of Begin Redemption. This delivers a wall of riffs and drum battery, the brutality increasing with every pace drop. A track that packs a punch, it is followed by the high-speed aural assault that is Dhamaneon. It’s brutal but catchy.

If the predecessor wasn’t fast enough for you, then The Battle Of The Saicasm (Ariel Predator) might meet your remit. It’s a full-throttle assault from the offset, dropping in a few crushing breakdowns for contrast on this four-and-a-half-minute blitzkrieg.

The Onslaught… Cyborg Tank Division features a guest appearance from Angel Ochoa (Abominable Putridity, Cephalotripsy, Disgorge). I love the ominous undertones that course beneath the rapid fire riffing.

The chugging riffs that run alongside more jarring riffing and ground shaking gutturals make Khristov’s Seventh Eagle Legion a track that bludgeons your senses into submission. I love the unpredictable and slick direction switching.

The Refaim Machine Brigades delivers more rapid machinegun fire riffing, packing even more brutality to its punch. The sudden midpoint direction and pace switch breaks things up nicely and there’s even a subtle Morbid Angel undercurrent towards the close.

I confess the title Psycho Mincer Assault Corpse did make me snigger. But musically, it’s an insane track both in pace and crushing content.

Undisputably one of their most popular live tracks, the bonus track, the lyrically hilarious (to me at least) Whore Collector Of Testicles, first appeared on Carnivore Diprosopus’ debut album, Filled My Stomach With A Pregnant’s Corpse back in 2004. This version features additional vocals from Rene Barthoulot of Slamentation. I love the opening brutal groove and the crunchy, punchy, very old-school brutality to the sound. It is an absolutely classic piece that has been nicely reworked.

I love the suitably war-torn cover art by Pedro ‘Lordigan’ Sena, who has also done work for Analepsy, Ingested and Putrid Pile. It has a Mad Max meets Warhammer 40K feel.

Rise Of The Insurrection may be a challenging listen, but then Brutal Death fans would be disappointed if it wasn’t. That is part of the point.

However, one very obvious factor that must be mentioned is that you can hear how much these guys LOVE what they are doing, and that is a crucial factor. As a result, it oozes fun and joy….. and BRUTALITY!
