Brutal Sphincter / Unvaxxed Lives Matter Leads New Album Sphinct-Earth Society

Brutal Sphincter, who have been offending everyone since 1 April 2013, signed to Time To Kill Records earlier in the year and have now announced their new album, Sphinct-Earth Society, will be released on 23 May 2025.

Their first single, Unvaxxed Lives Matter, is out now and shows that the band are definitely staying true to their unmistakable goregrind roots. Lyrically, the single addresses the dangerous irony of spreading misinformation and ignoring science and takes a satirical look at the absurd victimhood claimed by anti-vaxxers during the pandemic.

“The idea for this song came to us during one of our many frustrations over anti-vaxxers amid the Covid-19 restrictions,” Brutal Sphincter said. “Previously, we only knew anti-vaxxers as odd figures from the world of conspiracy theorists who didn’t want to vaccinate their children against polio or measles.

“However, anti-vaxxers suddenly gained significant prominence in society and, to our absolute bewilderment, managed to spread their views to a larger portion of the population. We noticed that this movement repeatedly portrayed itself as victims despite not being the group that suffered the most in the context of the pandemic.

“Shoutout to all the healthcare workers and those who had to be isolated due to their illness.”

Brutal Sphincter dub themselves as “POOlitical” and, through offbeat and satirical humour, they take a stand against all forms of extremism while championing freedom of speech.

With Unvaxxed Lives Matter, they talk of people who ignored the real struggle of others, such as healthcare workers, whilst rejecting vaccines and turning to pseudo-science (crystals, herbal teas, and so-called miracle cures such as MMS – chlorine dioxide – to cleanse your body of pathogens and parasites) ironically distrusting lifesaving medicine believing in unproven remedies.

“This phenomenon seemed so ridiculous to us,” they say, “that the name Unvaxxed Lives Matter came to mind, clearly referencing the Black Lives Matter movement. From this committed and absolutely necessary movement, other movements quickly emerged, slightly altering the name to portray themselves as victims.

“Examples include All Lives Matter, Blue Lives Matter, or White Lives Matter, which tend to come from the far-right milieu.”

Here, the band refer to page 293 of this document.

“This, along with a flag with the slogan Unvaxxed Lives Matter, that was actually photographed at an anti-vaxxer demonstration, inspired us to create a song about this group.”

Musically, it’s as catchy as it gets. Opening on Death Metal style guitar squeals that re-appear throughout the track, it delivers a straightforward but effective Grindcore rhythm, which, thanks to the groovy bass lines and catchy drum rhythms that pound along with unnerving and unrelenting menace, create an addictive stomping beast of a track.

The excellent twin vocals take it to the next level, melding pitched goregrind vocals with slam inhales and death growls alongside a spoken element. It is an absolutely superb listen and bodes well for the full Brutal Sphincter album.

Brutal Sphincter – Sphinct-Earth Society can be pre-ordered from Time To Kill Records.
