Bloodstock Festival 2024 – Thursday. Citing their sound as ‘War Thrash’, Acid Age certainly brought a loud and brash start to BOA 24 as the Northern Ireland trio blasted their way through a bruising set of heaviness.
Bloodstock Festival 2024
Catton Park, Derbyshire – Thursday 8 August 2024

The crowd, pleasingly full for the openers, are in full energy, with the circle pits and early crowdsurfers flexing eager to get stuck in. The music is a blast of Death Thrash, it’s not for the faint hearted.

Drummer Jake is soon shirtless, whilst front man Jude snarls and roars, but acknowledges the honour to be the festival openers. They draw from their last album, Semper Pessimus and their twisting, turning style works well. A bristling start.
South of Salem
It is hard to go to a festival without seeing Bournemouth’s hardest working band, but South Of Salem seems genuinely made up to be here.

They are sandwiched between two totally different genres in Tailgunner and Hellripper but bring their own Gothic theatre to a set that is once more brimming with polished anthems.
They keep the set similar to that witnessed at Steelhouse recently. It is high energy, intoxicating stuff and a huge crowd are word perfect, demonstrating that this is a band destined for bigger things.

South Of Salem delivers a well-crafted show, and with their stage bathed in blues and reds, the drama is definitely there.
They will be back but on the main stage next time.

Bloodstock 2024 will be held over the long weekend of 8-11 August 2024. MetalTalk’s Paul Hutchings, Adrian Stonley, Paul Monkhouse and Keith Conlin will be reporting from Catton Park.
