Bloodstock Festival 2024 – Saturday. It is fitting that on the weekend that Lemmy’s ashes are placed in a bust of him in the RAM Gallery at least one band who follows the spirit of the great man’s music is on the bill. It is still a bit raw in the ears after Mr Benton’s Death Metal aural assault, but back to the Sophie Tent we go for a bit of balls-to-the-wall rock ‘n’ roll with Asomvel.
Bloodstock Festival 2024
Catton Park, Derbyshire – Saturday 10 August 2024

Asomvel
It turns out to be a decent decision because despite their slightly generic songwriting style, Asomvel certainly entertain. They hit the ground running, founding member and guitarist Lenny Robinson joined by long-standing vocalist/bassist Ralph Robinson (founder member Jay Jay Winter’s nephew), and the recently acquired duo of drummer Ryan Thackwray and guitarist Stel Robinson (son of Lenny, brother of Ralph).
It is very much a family affair.
For 45 minutes, Asomvel burns through a set of high-tempo rockers that get the reasonably large crowd bouncing along. We get a cover of Born To Raise Hell in order of the great man, as well as several cuts from Asomvel’s most recent album, Born To Rock ‘n’ Roll.
It is a vibrant and fun set that ticks all the boxes. Perfect for a Saturday afternoon, Asomvel weave their magic well.
Bloodstock 2024 will be held over the long weekend of 8-11 August 2024. MetalTalk’s Paul Hutchings, Adrian Stonley, Paul Monkhouse and Keith Conlin will be reporting from Catton Park.
