Bloodstock Festival 2024 – Sunday. Back-to-back Thrash may be great for those who have youth on their side, but when Preston’s Xentrix are playing the classic Shattered Existence in full straight after Sadus, one needs to summon up the last vestiges of energy from the tank.
Bloodstock Festival 2024
Catton Park, Derbyshire – Sunday 11 August 2024
Xentrix
They’ve been here before, and Xentrix, interestingly introduced by former Onslaught singer Sy Keeler as “the best UK Thrash band of all-time”, prove their billing with a display of power and technique which reminds us that when they are on form, they are hard to beat.
Tonight, they have got the burners fully ignited and rip through the nine tracks that comprise Shattered Existence. For the old school, it’s a return to that 1989 debut, from the fire of opener No Compromise to the closing song Heaven Sent.
It’s over in the blink of an eye and smiles around the tent prove that Xentrix on their day can really bring it.
The evening sun is slowly setting, casting a crimson shadow over Catton Hall for the final time. It is almost a blood-soaked battlefield image, except all the soldiers are still standing and waiting for the last battle.
This is a field full of 20,000 would-be Vikings of all shapes and sizes, waiting for the coming storm.
Bloodstock 2024 will be held over the long weekend of 8-11 August 2024. MetalTalk’s Paul Hutchings, Adrian Stonley, Paul Monkhouse and Keith Conlin will be reporting from Catton Park.
