Whitesnake / David Coverdale illness cancels North American tour

David Coverdale has announced that a “persistent upper respiratory infection” has meant that the Whitesnake appearances on the North American tour with the Scorpions has been cancelled.

“It is with profound disappointment and a heavy heart,” David Coverdale said in a statement, “that I must announce that Whitesnake will no longer be able to join The Scorpions on their US and Canadian tour due to my continued treatment for a persistent upper respiratory infection that affects my ability to perform.

“This includes the cancellation of our own headlining shows as well. While Whitesnake will no longer be on the tour, the Scorpions will be continuing on. We Wish Our Good Friends, The Scorpions, every Success! We Wish You Well.”

The first night of their farewell tour was in Dublin, an evening that MetalTalk’s Brian Boyle described as “emotional and thrilling.”

In June, Whitesnake took the stage one man down at Hellfest 2022, and Steve Vai, following his own impressive solo set, joined the band for the last song of the set, Still Of The Night.

The European leg of their farewell tour was, however, curtailed in July. Reb Beach missed a number of dates through ill health, and Tommy Aldridge also suffered a setback. Frontman David Coverdale was then placed on bed rest for five days under orders from his doctor.

“It is with the deepest sadness,” David Coverdale said on 1 July 2022, “that I must announce that due to continuing health challenges, doctor’s orders, and our concern for everyone’s health and safety, Whitesnake is unable to continue its European Farewell Tour.”
