Troy Redfern has announced his next album, set for a 2024 release, will be called Invocation. Additionally, Troy released a new single, Getaway, last week. This morning, Troy has launched a new Kickstarter Campaign to get the album over the line.
Paul Stewart (drums) and Dave Marks (bass) join Troy on Getaway. “I wanted to write and record songs that were bigger and ballsier than what has come before,” Troy says. “The new songs embrace more of the rockier elements of my writing and playing. I’ve also given myself the creative freedom to explore and feel out other styles or aspects of my writing that have not been heard on any of my other albums.”
Getaway deals with themes of freedom. It’s about knowing when it’s time to leave a bad situation and “cutting yourself some slack,” Troy says. “It’s about transforming your life, even if there are difficult decisions to be made. As they say, from the mud grows the lotus.”
Invocation is the follow-up to The Wings of Salvation [2022], which received rave reviews. Troy has completed the new album. “I can say without a doubt that we’ve upped the game in every respect,” Troy says. “The songs are stronger, the production is dialled in, and I absolutely can’t wait for you guys to hear it.
Invocation feels like an evolution
Troy told us that Invocation feels like an evolution from The Wings Of Salvation. “As an artist, I feel it’s important to keep pushing and striving to refine your art while staying true to your vision,” he says. “It is important to know who you are as an artist. On Getaway and the upcoming album, I think I have finally perfected my own contemporary signature sound.
“My amazing experience working with producer Dave Marks, drummer Paul Stewart [The Feeling] and mixer Jo Webb on Wings Of Salvation meant that these guys were the logical choice to work on the new record. I knew that as a team, we could really build upon the stylistic foundation we’d created making Wings and would be able to take that to the next level in terms of writing and production.”
As a result of the album being completed, the aim of the Kickstarter campaign is to help Troy push the album process forward with manufacture, marketing and helping with the costs associated with a tour. There are some tantalising rewards on offer, including the Vera Black Troy Redfern Gambler Hat.
“You guys knocked it out of the park on the last album,” Troy says. “Let’s do it again and make this one bigger and better than the last album.”
Troy will be on tour with Philip Sayce in November. You can contribute to the Kickstarter Campaign at kickstarter.com/projects/troyredfern/troy-redfern-invocation-album
