Tonight / The Who Sell Out Classic Album Sky Arts documentary airs

‘The Who Sell Out’ is the featured Classic Album on tonights (23 April) Sky Arts show. Released 15 December 1967, the album marked a bold new direction for the band, with songs interspersed with fake commercials and public service announcements.

The album charted at No.13 in the UK and No.48 in the Billboard chart and featured the song ‘Heinz Baked Beans’. The single ‘I Can See For Miles’ charted in the top ten both sides of the pond.

The documentary looks at the cultural upheaval of 1967 and looks at how the band explored this through the albums concepts of pirate radio and ‘selling out’ through commercial advertising.

The Who have also released the album today as a Superdeluxe Edition through UMC/Polydor. You can buy this from thewho.lnk.to/SellOutBoxPR

The Classic Albums show starts at 9PM BST on Freeview Channel 11.

Also set to feature on later shows are Soul II Soul and Suede.
