The Revenants / New Single She’s A Quean Is A Stark Look At The Oldest Profession

The Revenants are a no-nonsense, hard-edged, punk-tinged, high-energy power trio from Stoke who are certainly not to be confused with a host of similarly named outfits. With a fresh take on ’70s classic rock, they cite AC/DC, Motörhead, Saxon and Guns ‘N’ Roses as influences.

They comprise Jim D on guitar and vocals, DG Booth on bass and ‘The Drummer’ on, guess what. One can sense just what reverence he is referred to within the band.

Out Friday 19 September 2025 is their latest single, She’s A Quean, which marks somewhat of a departure from their customary frenetic, aggressive sound. Check out last month’s contagion Hard Rock Mutt which is linked below.

Lyrically, the song is a sad observation on ‘the oldest profession’.

The first thing that strikes you are the open Americanaesque chords above which Jim’s rich rolling tones are given space for expression.

As the arrangement develops, there’s a more robust recurring pattern reminiscent of a Nineties/Noughties US act which I just can’t put my finger on. Throughout, DG’s intricate bass is backed by Moonesque conversational drums.

The melodic solo flows into a bass-led deviation prior to the song’s acceleration into a closing gallop. She’s A Quean is a slow burner, whose charms slowly but surely infiltrate the senses.

Not having encountered the band before, much sonic research was required. One thing that became clearly apparent was how the arrangement enabled each member to stretch themselves.

“I know it’s certainly the best thing we’d recorded up to that point,” Jim D told us. “Call it a taste of how much the band has progressed since our album from last year, if you will.

“It’s one that strays that little bit away from our usual beaten path, and it was good for us as a band to see how we can bring a little variety to some of the new material we’ve been recording.”

I can imagine them being a most pulsating and enthralling live act whose spirit will transfer to audiences, and as such, this release will be an essential contrasting inclusion.

She’s A Quean will feature on their next album, due Spring 2026, but will be available independently on Friday 19 September via the usual streaming services. For more details, visit linktr.ee/therevenantsband.
