Bloodstock Festival 2024 – Sunday. From Sludgy Thrash [Cultura Tres] to Progressive Metal in one easy stepdemonstrates just how eclectic the 2024 Bloodstock line-up is. It’s the turn of Swedes Soen to bring their introspective melodies to the main stage and it is a good crowd that turns out to enjoy 40 minutes of stunning music.

Catton Park, Derbyshire – Sunday 11 August 2024
Soen
I have heard some say that Soen are moving a bit more towards the Metal mainstream rather than exploring their melodic heaviness in other directions. That seems a little harsh, but regardless, theirs is a set that works on every level for me.
The intoxicating Lotus is a highlight, as Soen draw from recent album Memorial as well as Lotus and Imperial. Anchored by Martin Lopez’s superlative drumming, it is certainly the arena for Joel Ekelöf to play the Rock star.
Dressed in black shirt and leather jacket on a scorching early afternoon is impressive. But it is his soaring vocals that make this all worthy as the band craft out their music.
By the time they get to Violence, the crowd are captivated, and it is disappointing when Soen finish because we want more.
Bloodstock 2024 will be held over the long weekend of 8-11 August 2024. MetalTalk’s Paul Hutchings, Adrian Stonley, Paul Monkhouse and Keith Conlin will be reporting from Catton Park.
