Legendary Slade guitarist Dave Hill has announced the release of his long-awaited debut solo album Dirty Foot Lane, arriving in October 2026. Best known as the flamboyant lead guitarist and founding member of Slade, Hill steps into a more personal and reflective artistic space with a collection that blends rock, blues, folk and atmospheric soundscapes.
Dirty Foot Lane draws heavily from Hill’s own life story, exploring his upbringing, family influences, ambition and rise to international fame with Slade. The album also addresses more personal themes, including mental health struggles, resilience and the emotional impact of the COVID-19 lockdowns.
The album title refers to a real place close to where Hill grew up and still lives today, representing the emotional and symbolic heart of the record. Hill describes the album as a deeply autobiographical work shaped by memory, reflection and creativity.
Production duties are led by Django Holder, son of Slade frontman Noddy Holder, adding another meaningful link to the band’s enduring legacy. Long-time collaborator John Berry, known for his work with Mud and The Sweet, also contributes heavily to the project alongside producer and musician Rob Childs.
Tracks such as Play It To The Crowd and Back In The Air Again were inspired by the absence of touring during lockdown and aim to recreate the excitement and connection of live performance. Elsewhere, songs like She Had A Troubled Heart explore love, loss and mental health, while Sweet And Tender serves as a tribute to Hill’s mother.
The title track Dirty Foot Lane stands as the emotional centrepiece of the album, combining folk and ambient influences into an intimate and atmospheric soundscape.
Speaking about the record, Hill said: “It’s my story – my family, my home, my journey. Everything connects back to that.”
Dirty Foot Lane marks a significant new creative chapter for Hill after more than five decades in music. “I’ve always been driven,” he said. “And I’m still looking for the next challenge. This album is part of that journey.”
Dave Hill remains one of British Rock’s most recognisable guitarists, continuing to perform and connect with audiences worldwide as part of Slade’s enduring legacy.
