Premiere / Grimner shed blood, sweat and tears for Västerled

Grimner premiere their new single Västerled today at MetalTalk. The heavy folk Metal song is taken from their upcoming album Urfader, due later this year.

“We are happy to share Västerled with the world,” the band told MetalTalk. “We put a lot of effort into this song and think it gives a good representation of the new Grimner sound.”

On Västerled, Grimner spins their roots and influences of Swedish Death Metal and weave their love of Heavy and Power Metal together with enchanting folk melodies and pagan choirs to create their own unique sound, once again all sung in their native Swedish.

Västerled, translated to Westbound, is a great indication of the crisp and fresh new sound of the band. Thrashing guitar riffs, the mix of powerful clean and harsh vocals, and pounding drums, all mixed with beautiful and distinct flutes and other folk instruments, make for an atmosphere that fits the tales of the old Norse gods and folklore alike.

“We had a very good time recording the music video in the beautiful longhouse of Ale Vikingagård in Sweden,” Grimner says, “which added an authentic atmosphere. We gathered a lot of Vikings and a few monks at the scene to illustrate what the lyrics are all about.”

Grimner’s fourth album Urfader will be released later this year. “We have never put this much effort into the production of an album previously,” they said. “Truly, blood, sweat and tears have been added to make this release what it has become. Finally, we are happy to share it with the world.”

Grimner was founded in 2008 in the Swedish town of Motala by lead guitarist and vocalist Ted, together with the drummer Henry. The first demo, A Call For Battle (2010), was sung explicitly in English but was soon to be replaced by their native tongue Swedish. As time progressed and new records were being released (EP Färd (2012), acoustic EP De Kom Från Norr (2015), full-length album Blodshymner (2014)), Grimner has steadily made a name for themselves. One example is tour support for the legendary Korpiklaaniduring their shows in Sweden in 2015.

In 2016 Grimner released their praised album Frost Mot Eld (Despotz Records), an album that brought a totally new sound to the music community. The album received outstanding reviews worldwide, with songs that, to this date, have reached millions of streams. With the album and their fantastic overall concept, Grimner were invited to perform at festival stages around Europe. In 2018 the band celebrated their 10th anniversary and released a new full-length album, Vanadrottning (Despotz Records) on 9 February.
