Porcupine Tree / Prog rock trio share new single; Album and European tour to follow

UK progressive rock band Porcupine Tree shocked their fans by suddenly releasing a new single, Harridan, and announcing details of their forthcoming album due on 24 June 2022 via Music For Nations / Sony.

The band also announced a 12 date European tour for October / November 2022, with the final date of that run on 11 November 2022 at Wembley Arena, the band’s solitary UK gig. North American dates are due in early 2023.

Closure / Continuation is Porcupine Tree’s first new album since 2009s, The Incident. “Harridan and a few of the other new songs have been in play since shortly after the release of The Incident,” the band said.

“They initially lived on a hard drive in a slowly growing computer file marked PT2012, later renamed PT2015, PT2018 and so on. There were times when we even forgot they were there and times when they nagged us to finish them to see where they would take us.

“Listening to the finished pieces, it was clear that this wasn’t like any of our work outside the band – the combined DNA of the people behind the music meant these tracks were forming what was undeniably, unmistakably, a Porcupine Tree record. You’ll hear all of that DNA flowing through Harridan.”

The band were put on an indefinite hiatus after a sold-out show at The Royal Albert Hall on 14 October 2010. Band members Steven Wilson (guitar/vocals), Gavin Harrison (drums) and Richard Barbieri (keyboards) all went on to have hugely successful solo careers or other band projects since then.

The subject of a Porcupine Tree reunion has always been brought up during the last 11 years. Steven Wilson stated only last year that “yes, there will be another Porcupine Tree album, and it will be released when it’s least expected.”
