As Nothing But Thieves prepare for a string of huge shows throughout the UK, including appearances at the Reading and Leeds festivals and a host of arena shows, the band have treated a lucky few to three intimate acoustic shows that include Q&A sessions as well a copy of their latest release, Dead Club City. Tonight, I have the privilege of attending the second date on this mini tour at the LCR in Norwich.

As the sold-out crowd pile into the venue from around 7 pm, the band, which on the night consists of frontman Conor Mason and guitarists Don Craik and Joe Langridge-Brown, take to the stage just over an hour later.
After Mason greets the fans that have made the trek into Norwich, the Southend-grown group goes straight into the song Overcome.
Even at a stripped-down show such as this, the band show nothing but sheer class, demonstrating Conor Mason’s incredible vocal abilities. He’s certainly one of the best on the scene, in my opinion, sounding just as polished live as he does in the studio.
Don and Joe also show their versatility as guitarists, supplying a stunning backing for Conor to work his magic over the top.
Overall, the band are on stage for around an hour, playing a collection of songs from their last three releases, including Amsterdam, Sorry, Impossible and a beautiful rendition of Radiohead’s Fake Plastic Trees, finishing with Tomorrow Is Closed from their latest album.
Seeing Nothing But Thieves in a different light this evening was a refreshing change. It was a stellar performance without all the bells and whistles you would see at their usual outings, which are an absolute must-see if you’ve not had the chance yet.
This event also gave the fans a chance to get up close and personal with their heroes, as they got to ask them a host of questions in between the songs.
It was a short gig but filled to the absolute brim with fantastic music and a nice way for the group to give back to their loyal supporters.
