Massive Wagons Lead Hairy Biker Dave Myers Celebration

A remembrance celebration for TV chef and Hairy Baker Dave Myers will be held in Barrow on 8 June 2024. Massive Wagons will headline a show at the rugby club with support from Blue Nation, Maiden Cumbria, The Silver Bars, Jordan Gaffney, God Damn Smile, The Dales and Route 66, with many other celebrations held at Barrow Town Hall.

Myers passed away in February this year following a prolonged battle with cancer, and since then, people across the country have been putting their heads together to give him the send-off he deserves.

Alongside his co-chef, Si King, Myers had become a fixture on British television, charming audiences with his down-to-earth demeanour and genuine passion for food. Born in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, Myers’s culinary journey is rooted in his working-class background, which deeply influenced his approach to cooking.

A service of remembrance and family entertainment will take place in the town centre. Away from this, other sports clubs have already pledged to get involved, including Barrow AFC, who cancelled a competing event on 8 June to ensure the focus was firmly on Myers for the weekend.

A stage and centre point in town will be located on the Town Square, directly outside the Town Hall and the Forum Theatre, with performances scheduled to commence at 4:00 pm.

Several food stalls will be at both the Rugby Club & in the Courtyard at the rear of the Town Hall with a wide variety of local vendors, several of whom have worked with Dave on various projects.

A number of local businesses have been getting in the spirit of the occasion, with one shop creating Dave Day scarves that will be used to further boost the fundraising total, whilst a number of pubs have pledged to give out free food and drink to the weary bike riders when they eventually reach the area.

On the day itself, the money brought in will also have charitable destinations, giving people more of a reason to get involved, as well as celebrating the life of one of Barrow’s most loved sons.

Around 10,000 bikers could join the ride from London to Barrow, and they are all expected to ride into Barrow Town Centre around 4 pm.

Tickets are priced at ÂŁ10 each, with all surplus monies after costs going to two charities, NSPCC Childline and The Institute for Cancer Research, which were chosen in Myers’ honour.

Dave Day Tickets are available from here.
