Mad Haven are a vibrant hard rock trio from North Wales who have recently regrouped after a near two-year hiatus. Since their return they have already released one single, Take Control. Today sees them follow up with Wasted On You.
Before this, MetalTalk caught them supporting Kira Mac in Chester, describing them as “Infectious, melodic, groovy, tuneful riff-laden boogie that has you grinning from ear to ear.” That evening’s review is available here.
Comprising siblings Tom & Alex Rogowski (vocalist/guitarist & drums respectively) and Adam Haven on bass (Yes, that is his real name), Wasted On You is a song of encouragement and empowerment and walking away from toxicity and starting afresh.
A huuuge Fooey riffy opening softens into a breezy yet propulsive rocker with virulent crossover appeal at times reminiscent of The Cars.
“Don’t tell me I’m a misfit
I don’t wanna play tricks
You broke my heart in two.”
While the sound has that refined studio sparkle, the melodically elevating but reflective chorus is driven by a fortifying rhythm that will intensify when performed live.
Post chorus, a delicate bluesy intermission segues into a transient frenzy before the percussion thunders in to accompany the solo.
One senses that the lyrics have been shaped by bitter experiences but ones that do not diminish the open, sunny evanescence of this hugely appealing track.
With a ‘comeback show’ set for Friday the 12th on home turf at The Motorsport Lounge in Llandudno (a most fascinating wee venue), I am sure we will be seeing plenty more of Mad Haven over the coming months.
Wasted On You will be available on all major streaming platforms. For more details, catch up with the boys at Facebook.
