Gene Simmons has dropped the biggest hint yet that the Kiss reunion with Ace Frehley, and possibly Peter Criss, is on.
On Friday 30th December, Gene posted the above picture on his Instagram account with just a question mark as his comment and over 7,000 likes later, fans are in big speculation that it really is going to happen.
Rumours have been doing the rounds for months that Ace was to be asked back into the fold for a 2017 tour and his close friend Eddie Trunk said back in September 2016 on his SiriusXM radio show:
“As of September 15th of this year, Ace Frehley has celebrated ten years of sobriety. I’m really happy for my old friend. That’s a great accomplishment for him. It certainly shows in his personality, his playing. We had a great time in New York when I hosted a show with him on Friday.
“There are rampant rumours out there that Ace is going to return to Kiss next year. These are not rumours that I’m putting out – I’ve not said anything about that one way or another.
“I’m hearing from so many people. They keep saying, ‘They’re going to ask him back, he’s going to do one more tour with them in 2017’.”
Trunk discussed the concept with Frehley in his dressing room, asking him: “You realise everybody out there is saying you’re going back to Kiss? Be straight with me, nobody’s called you, you don’t know anything?
“He goes, ‘No. I’d do it, but nobody’s called me.'”
Ace left the band in 1982 and returned for a 1996 reunion before departing again in late 2000 and resuming his solo career.
He reunited with Paul Stanley earlier this year for a cover of the Free song ‘Fire And Water’, which appeared on his latest album, ‘Origins: Vol. 1.’
In May 2016, Scott Ian of Anthrax teasingly posted this photo on Twitter, along with the words: “I hear things. I hear things. I hear things. @genesimmons #AceFrehley”
The photo was taken at the VH1 Rock Honors in 2006 and Scott posted it, with the above words, on Saturday 7th May 2016.
Ace told Talking Metal at the Revolver Music Awards in New York City on December 13th: “I haven’t heard anything from Paul and Gene although I did get a text from Gene the other day. He wanted to come see me perform this January. So, you know, maybe he’ll pop the big question. Who knows?
“Whatever happens, we’re all good. It’s all good.”
Whether Gene’s Instagram post of 30th December has any significance is open to debate. It wouldn’t be the first time Gene has teased his audience and played along with rumours that have turned out to be untrue.
