Swedish gothic rock band Scheitan has announced the release of their haunting new single, Love N’ Death, a darkly atmospheric anthem that serves as the first glimpse into their forthcoming album due next year. The track, released via The Circle Music, is accompanied by a lyric video that captures the brooding essence of Scheitan’s signature sound.
Love N’ Death offers a dreamy mid-tempo rhythm, encapsulating themes of love and mortality in an evocative chorus that lingers long after the final note. The band’s frontman, Pierre Törnkvist, who handles vocals and guitar, expressed his excitement about refining the band’s evolving sound alongside studio partner Daniel Bergstrand. “Each song feels like adding new detail and finish to Scheitan’s sound,” said Törnkvist.
The resurgence of the band’s live shows has also played a key role in shaping their music. Drummer Axel Moe joins Törnkvist in frequent rehearsals, creating a synergy that strengthens both their studio recordings and stage presence.
“Daniel (last name Bergstrand, studio Dug Out) is a huge help in this process,” Törnkvist said. “I see him more as a sound designer than a mix engineer. He has helped me out a lot to form the sound and we evolve both the sound and the work process with each song.
“Another thing that is pivotal to the new existence of Scheitan are the live shows, me and Axel (last name Moe, drummer) have now played a few and with each show, we sort of fine-tune the whole thing. As we also rehearse frequently it does not only impact the live performances, it also helps to deliver better performances in the studio for the recordings, as well.”
Formed in 1996, Scheitan initially carved a niche in the Black Metal scene with their debut album, Travelling In Ancient Times. Over the years, their music evolved into a blend of gothic and ambient rock, earning them a revered status among underground aficionados.
Their 1999 album Nemesis marked a significant departure from their Black Metal roots, embracing a darker, more melodic style that foreshadowed today’s gothic rock revival.
After a 24-year hiatus, Scheitan returned in 2023 with Lost In Time, a track reminiscent of gothic stalwarts like Sisters Of Mercy and Fields Of The Nephilim. Their single Believe has its premiere on MetalTalk in January this year.
The release of their 2024 album Songs For The Gothic People reaffirmed their place in the genre, featuring tracks that delve deep into the shadows of gothic expression.
