Wednesday 13 on Wednesday 30th. It has a ring to it. An evening with Wednesday 13 is always going to be great fun, with his tongue-in-cheek schlock horror tunes, through a fun live show and great band, quite simply, what’s not to like?

This is a one-off show dropped at the end of a handful of dates and a festival show before the band heads off to Europe, and is not part of his wider tour later in the year. But going on tonight’s show, it will be well worth booking tickets well in advance.
Tonight’s show was in the Chalk, which is basically a small nightclub with a stage squeezed into a corner, and it is too small for his usual visual stage set.
What we got, though, was Wednesday 13 and his band stripped back to the core music without the theatrics, and quite honestly, we did not need them. The songs are fun and energetic, and the audience was clearly loving every minute of it.
Everything you need song-wise is thrown into the show, and it is a complete crowd pleaser, from opener Look What The Bats Dragged In, through Too Fast For Blood, both titles being tongue-in-cheek digs at Poison and Mötley Crüe.
With a new album recently released, Mid Death Crisis, it was obvious that at some point, we would be treated to some new songs from that album. They came in the form of Rotting Away and then When The Devil Commands, which saw the crowd mouthing back the 666 chorus line at the band.
Something all Wednesday 13 fans know is that not only is he a prolific solo artist, but he has also strong music from other bands that he has played in, namely Murderdolls and Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13.
Unsurprisingly, we also were treated to some favourites from those eras with Summertime Suicide and Nowhere played from the Murderdolls back catalogue and 197666 and Die My Bride from the Frankenstein Drag Queens.
The main set ended with fan favourite I Walked With A Zombie, before the band returned for a two-song encore.
First up came Bad Things, before I Love To Say Fuck, which received a big cheer and the obvious invective-induced singalong from the audience.
This also saw Wednesday using the only prop of the evening, wielding an umbrella of all things, with the song title written across it. Only for others in the audience to also raise umbrellas. I guess IYKYN.
It was not the longest of sets, only 75 minutes, but it was well balanced and thoroughly enjoyable in a dark and tongue-in-cheek way.
Roll on the next set of dates when he returns to the UK later this year.
