Bloodstock Festival 2023 – Saturday. Back at Bloodstock for their fourth appearance, it’s evident from the start that Birmingham’s Dakesis mean to make another mark on the Catton Hall turf. They’ve played both smaller stages, and with The Sophie Lancaster tent at their mercy, they show their class with a set that oozes quality.
Dakesis
All eyes are on the whirling Gemma Lawlor, whose bright blue hair doesn’t distract from one of the best voices in the UK Metal scene. They may mistakenly be lumped in the Power Metal bracket, but that is only part of their arsenal.
Backed by the driving six-string bass of Amiee Chatterley, Matt Jones with his screaming guitars, and Adam Harris anchoring with drums, the band plunder their catalogue.
“It’s great to see so many friends,” Gemma says, a huge smile always on her face.
But it’s not just the old school who enjoy this, for many in the well-populated tent have never crossed paths with the band before. They are sure to add them to the radar now, though, for this is a strong and assured show.
What’s next for Dakesis? It can only be the main stage and the complete set.
