Cyan Kicks join the battle to be Finlands Eurovision entry

Cyan Kicks, from Helsinki, have released the new single Hurricane which will be their entry into Finland’s annual Eurovision selection contest in an event where they will be challenging The Rasmus.

Hurricane has been co-written with Elize Ryd, singer of the Swedish-Danish metal band Amaranthe. The song’s theme covers Elize’s battles with Lyme disease.

“Being able to write music again after everything that I had gone through was important to me,” Elize says. “That’s why this song will always have a special meaning for me.”

“When we got to the studio, Elize asked what we wanted to write,” Cyan Kicks singer and guitarist Susanna Alexandra told MetalTalk. “For a long time, we had wanted to write a song that conveys our willpower to push forward as a band and as individuals. It was the exact same theme that Elize had already been thinking about.”

The song’s chorus features chants of “shut up” and “give up”, which include voices of their fans selected via social media.

Finland’s annual Eurovision selection contest, UMK, Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu will be held on 26 February 9-11 pm. The winner is chosen by TV viewers and the UMK jury. If you are outside of Finland, you can watch the show at https://areena.yle.fi/tv.
