Romanian band byron are set to play The Garage at Highbury Corner on 13 September 2024. The band, which also features Dany Serrano, are one of the defining bands in Romania’s alternative music scene.
byron have a busy June, with a number of festivals in Romania, including the five day festival at Banffy Castle. They are one of the most musically unique ensembles in Eastern Europe, with eight studio albums in a career spanning almost two decades.
They have built one of the largest cult followings in their native country, moving comfortably across a myriad of styles from raw, passionate rock to meticulously orchestrated pieces featuring unusual instrumentation and progressive overtones.
Their last two albums, Efemeride and Nouă, in particular are a tremendous show of strength in songwriting and production, with the musicality of the Romanian language in the lyrics adding an even more unique and identifying touch. This certainly makes their music stand out above that of their peers.
“We communicate more than we ever did,” Dan Byron says, “but our communication has become more of a form of self-promotion, a projection of a persona that we imagine others might like. There are conversations we never have, and if some braver than us try to do it, we usually try to change the subject, pretending that we are too tired for something so deep.
“We’re all in hell looking pretty on the surface, lying to ourselves that the underside is totally ignorable as we snap the next selfie smiling into the lens.”
