Ambush / Grab Evil In All Dimensions And Rejoice In All Things Metal

If you want some classic Heavy Metal, then Evil In All Dimensions, the fourth album by Ambush, may be something to get excited about. It stinks of patchouli oil, well-worn denim and leather, tight jeans and hi-tops.

Ambush – Evil In All Dimensions

Release Date: 5 September 2025

Words: Paul Hutchings

The follow-up to 2020’s Infidel, this is unashamedly balls-out Metal in the vein of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Accept and Helloween. Crossing boundaries of Power and Speed Metal in equal parts, Evil In All Dimensions oozes energy, passion, and roots firmly in those halcyon days of the ’80s.

They may have one foot in the past, but there is a contemporary twist in the same way that bands like Enforcer, Tailgunner and Cobra Spell have put their own stamp on classic Metal style.

After the title track bolts out of the traps like a greyhound after the hare, it is a more solid style for the anthemic power of Maskirovka. Vocalist Oskar Jakobsson gives his all throughout, his range allowing him the dynamic delivery that the band’s intensive approach necessitates.

The songs carry exactly the titles you want from a band who base their sound on galloping bass, high octane solos and riffs that bring it large. Iron Sign, Bending The Steel, and the thunderous The Night I Took Your Life all transport you back to those teenage years where your biggest worry was whether to buy a gig ticket or the latest vinyl.

Inevitably, they follow the blueprint to the letter, perhaps a little too close on I Fear Blood, a ballad that draws on elements of Priest’s massive Before The Dawn from Stained Class, a real hand-in-the-air track that shares themes of escapism and self-destruction, a fight against the inner demons. But it’s well crafted, and although it’s a little clichéd, we must remember that these guys are not attempting to recreate the wheel here.

It is ideal driving force music, with Come Angel Of The Night sitting in the classic Speed Metal house. The dual guitar work of Olof Engqvist and Karl Dotzek excels throughout the record, but here it is undeniable that they are in total harmony.

They can do melody too, with The Reaper soaked in the AOR pomp of Journey, Foreigner and the like. It’s when they rip into the Priest flavoured Bending The Steel that I think Ambush really hit their mark. Dual guitars and driving rhythm make it a standout track.

Now signed to Napalm Records, one wonders how big they can push on to become. Certainly, in Europe, they are likely to be grasped with open arms, for this is Metal built for European festivals. Whether it will translate to the Metal hordes of the UK is debatable, but alongside the bands mentioned before, there is a swell of enthusiasm for relentless Old School Metal.

Whatever happens going forward, this is a feel-good release. Grab your cut off and bang your head in celebration of the new chapter and rejoice in all things Metal.

Ambush release Evil In All Dimensions on 5 September 2025 via Napalm Records. Pre-Orders are available from lnk.to/Ambush-EvilInAllDimensions/napalmrecords.
