LYNYRD SKYNYRD FANS TAKE IT ON FAITH WITH NEW GARY ROSSINGTON ALBUM

Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington has announced a collaboration with his wife, Dale Krantz-Rossington, on a new album to be titled ‘Take It on Faith’ which will be released worldwide via Loud & Proud Records on Friday 4th November.

Temporarily stepping away from the long shadow of Skynyrd, Gary and his wife (who has served as a backing vocalist with Skynyrd since 1987) are set to release their debut album. Neither Rossington gave much thought to pursuing musical activity outside the band after its late-80s reunion but Gary told us: “We do meet and greets every night when we’re on tour, and fans just kept asking us if we were ever going to do anything again, and we kept saying no, but even some of the Skynyrd band would say to us ‘Hey, go do something — the fans want to hear it’, so we finally we thought, ‘Well, let’s just do it.'”

The project, produced by David Z Rivkin (Prince, Fine Young Cannibals, John Mayall), came together slowly and features former Little Feat member Richie Hayward, who died in 2010, on drums, and it seems that the slow and steady approach during recording has finally paid off. “Right now, we consider it a gift to the fans. We did it for them, and I hope they like it,” explained Gary. “They asked us to do something again, so we did it. We seized that opportunity, and ran with it. And we’re real excited it’s finally coming out.”

The project was put together by the Producer/Engineer, David Z (Prince, Etta James, Buddy Guy) and also features Ben Fowler (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams), Jack Holder on guitar, Bruce McCabe on piano and keyboards and David Smith on bass guitar. Special guests on the album include ZZ Top legend Billy Gibbons who co-wrote ‘Good Side Of Good’, Delbert McClinton blowing a mean harp alongside two-time Grammy-Award winning producer, hit songwriter, recording artist and session guitarist Gary Nicholson on ‘Dance While You’re Cookin” and Bekka Bramlett, who has sung with everyone from Fleetwood Mac to Billy Joel to Robert Plant over the years.

Skynyrd have recently finished a North American tour, some dates of which were rescheduled in early August after Gary himself took ill. A statement from the band at the time explained that the band were rescheduling two full weeks of touring while Gary recovered at home from heart surgery which was needed to repair a blockage in his arteries.

Gary originally sought out a doctor’s evaluation in Atlanta after experiencing some chest pains in late July. He had previously undergone a heart bypass in 2003 and in early 2015 he was hospitalized for an abdominal infection. Then in November 2015, Skynyrd had to pull the remaining 2015 tour dates to allow him time to recover following a heart attack in early October. The heart attack took place only days before he had been due to undergo heart surgery.
