Sanguinem / New Single Suggests Positive Future For New Blood Alumni

Were you in the New Blood Tent at Bloodstock on Sunday, 13 August 2023? If you were, chances are that you would have seen the winners of the London Metal 2 The Masses competition Sanguinem rip through their 30 minutes with a confidence that a band so early in their career had little right to demonstrate.

Their muscular brand of Melodic Death Metal certainly hit the right spot with those who took the punt.

It is certainly time for some new music, and with Fragments Of Nothing, due to be released on 18 March, the band have upped their game with a bruising hammer blow that comes nicely to the boil before erupting into a seething mass of chaos.

It’s a real art form to increase intensity as a song develops, but that’s what the London outfit has done here. The driving riff strains to break free but is held in check whilst the tempo slowly increases.

This gives time for singer Juan Pablo Flores to use his aggressive drawling roar to great effect as the temperature suddenly heats up to a crunching climax.

If anything, it’s a little too fast an ending, and a slightly longer track may have exploited the option of expansion a little better.

Despite that limited gripe, this is a snarling, nasty bastard, a lurching drunk with a malevolent streak, willing to cut you for the price of a cup of tea. The rolling riffs ignite with a ferocity that pushes the boundaries of the genre whilst they manage to maintain that element of melody that made their set at BOA so watchable.

Their mix of groove and hardened Black Metal works well, albeit Flores’ vocals are likely to remain the divisive factor here.

Just shy of four minutes, Fragments Of Nothing is a brooding beast, one that improves on repeat plays. It signals a positive future and one that many of those who follow the fortunes of the Bloodstock New Blood alumni are likely to watch with interest.

Keep an eye on the Sanguinem Facebook Page on 18 March to hear Fragments Of Nothing.
