Women Rock!, a project which celebrates women in Heavy Metal, will release at 4 pm today a collaboration cover of Ronnie James Dio’s We Rock featuring the skills of 16 female Metal artists.
In its second year, the project aims to inspire men and women of all ages and backgrounds by discussing issues, sharing advice, and celebrating experiences.
“I was told to act in certain ways that were very uncomfortable,” Tristania & Ardours vocalist Mariangela Demurtas said, “just to sell more records. I’m very happy we’ve learned we can simply say ‘No!'”
As well as the We Rock cover, there is also a panel interview with female Metal stars who share their struggles and advice in operating in a male-dominated industry, including being told they have no place in Metal. “Who wrote a definition of Metal anyway?” Lena Scissorhands, the Modern Metal Phenomenon from Infected Rain, says. “Being told you do not belong is the worst thing to hear.”
Women Rock! is part of a series of videos that will be shared on the Belgian Jasper YouTube channel. “I’m so honoured to be amongst these amazing women,” Hel Pyre (W.E.B., Afterblood & King Diamond) says.
