With the release of their devastating third studio album, In Devastation, Sinsaenum are on a five-stop tour of the UK and are currently setting up in Epic Studios, Norwich, for tonight’s show. In Devastation marks a bold and emotionally charged new chapter in the band’s evolution, one fuelled by loss, transformation, and unapologetic creative ambition.
1. Their crushing new album In Devastation is made for the pit
In Devastation are a crushing force of Blackened Death Metal, as viciously exciting as it is soul-baringly personal. The album’s experimental edge and progressive elements rip the ground out from beneath you as Sinsaenum’s brutal core remains to tether you down.
From Shades Of Black to Buried Alive, this army of new material is going to bring an onslaught of chaos.
2. This is their first tour since founding drummer Joey Jordison passed away
“I was devastated, hence the title of this album,” Guitarist and bandleader FrĂ©dĂ©ric Leclercq (Kreator, ex-Dragonforce) explains. “But we knew we had to carry on. This record is our tribute to my father, to Joey, and to anyone who’s ever had to find strength in their darkest moments.”
Leclercq says the album is a tribute to both Jordison (Slipknot, Murderdolls), who died in his sleep aged 46 in July 2021, and his own late father, and the grief from these two losses is vulnerably and defiantly woven throughout the ten new tracks.
3. They are a supergroup of Death, Black and Thrash Metal dreams
Sinsaenum was forged out of Leclercq and Jordison’s shared passion for Extreme Metal, particularly Black and Death Metal. Mayhem’s Attila Csihar, DĂĄĂĄth’s Sean Zatorsky, Loudblast’s StĂ©phane Buriez, and Seth’s Heimoth completed this extreme vision, and together they released, as friends, two studio albums – Echoes Of The Tortured and Repulsion For Humanity.
Stepping in behind the kit is Andre Joyzi, trusted to take up Jordison’s mantle not just for his drum flaying skills, but for the emotional connection he brings to continuing Jordison’s legacy as his former tech and a trusted member of the band’s touring family.
4. It’s a good excuse to hang out with friends and wear your black leather jacketÂ
When the band first formed, Leclercq told Metal Hammer: “We’re all friends – well, they are all my friends – and that’s what I wanted to do. People will think, ‘Oh, he’s just choosing these famous guys’, but they just happened to be famous musicians. More importantly, I had a real friendship with these guys.”
Sinsaenum may be an Extreme Metal supergroup in the eyes of the Metal masses, but to Leclercq, it’s a group of his friends, in matching black leather jackets, joined together to make the kind of music he listened to growing up.
So gather your friends, get your leather jacket on, and hit up one of Sinsaenum’s UK tour dates. Tickets are available from linktr.ee/SinTourdates.
