With 2020 marking ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris’ 50th year in broadcasting, the legendary presenter is to gather a group of musicians together to record his favourite single ‘Stand By Me’ in a fundraising move supporting the charity Help Musicians.
The original track was recorded by Ben E. King on 27th October, 1960 and this new version will be released on its 60th anniversary this year.
Elles Bailey told MetalTalk: “Bob Harris has been a huge support of my musical journey and I’m honoured to have been asked to be a part of this project along side this all-star cast. Totally bowled over!
“Artists confirmed so far include: Paul Rodgers, Mark Knopfler, P.P. Arnold, Julian Lennon, Jimmie Allen, Peter Frampton, Mica Paris, Rick Wakeman, Richard Thompson, Beth Nielsen Chapman, The Shires, Ward Thomas and Yours Truly!”
The musicians will all contribute their parts from isolation around the world and all are supporting the Help Musicians charity.
Elles continues: “This is an amazing project, for a cause very close to my heart, with a stellar line-up.
“So, if you can, a donation will be greatly appreciated. If you’re not in a position to be able to donate just now, sharing this GoFundMe will hugely help to raise awareness as well!”
Bob Harris told us: “With income streams so badly affected by COVID-19, we are hoping this recording will generate sufficient revenue to benefit our charity partner Help Musicians – a charity that does magnificent work in helping musicians survive in times of difficulty.
“In these unprecedented times for the music industry, their work is more important than ever.”
