Death Metal Legends Cannibal Corpse returned to Glasgow on their European tour, supporting their latest release, Chaos Horrific. This was an evening to show that Death Metal is far from finished. This tour was a treat for the old-school fanatics out there as they were joined by Immolation, Municipal Waste and Schizophrenia.

The Legends that are Cannibal Corpse do not muck about. As soon as they enter the stage, they kick straight into Blood Blind. Vocalist George Fisher is impressed with Glasgow tonight as there is an instant sea of crowd surfers and headbangers in sync with each other with plenty of devil horns being pumped into the air.
Cannibal Corpse brings a good mixture of old and new songs tonight, including a few fan favourites such as Chaos Horrific, Disposal Of The Body, Pit Of Zombies, and Fucked With A Knife.
It is so mesmerising watching how George Fisher is still able to headbang with such ferocious energy at his age. No wonder his neck is so big. This is supported by George wearing a t-shirt of himself that says Respect The Neck.
Alex Webster’s bass playing is on the peak, as usual. The ease with how he is able to headbang and play complicated riffs without looking at his guitar still amazes me to this day. Eriks and Rob’s guitar playing together is a 10/10. They play so effortlessly but with so much aggression in their tone and heavy riffs.
Glasgow were lucky to see Erik Rutan play as, unfortunately, he had to recently drop from the tour to attend to his family due to hurricane Helene and the damage it caused to his home. We at MetalTalk hope the very best for Erik and pray for his family.
The set is finished with Hammer Smashed Face, the instant classic that got me into this band in the first place.
This was truly a fantastic show, and there was not one dull moment. However, it was also one of the more violent gigs I have been to in some time, and Barrowlands was hit hard with the aftermath of drunk people, vomit on the floor, and the fresh smell of sweat, blood and tears.
To see these older bands pertain so much energy still just goes to show that Death Metal, indeed old school Metal, is still here to stay for a long time.
Municipal Waste
Municipal Waste brought something a little bit different tonight as they are more of a Thrash Metal band compared to the standard Death Metal. However, they fit in just as well as the other acts tonight.
Often, this style of music is considered to be very negative and serious, but Municipal Waste were here just to have a good time as well as keep it nice and heavy.
There is plenty of chanting as they come on stage and kick straight into action. This is Thrash Metal at its finest. The songs are often sweet and short, giving them enough time to play about 20 tracks tonight.
Fortunately, this does not become stale as they interact with their audience very well. Municipal Waste commands everyone to form mosh pit circles and even the deadly wall of death, which I was glad not to be a part of as, safe to say, it was slightly chaotic.
Towards the end of their set, the audience is chanting “Municipal Waste is gonna fuck you up” over and over as they play Born To Party as their final song. This was probably the most fun part of the night.
Immolation
Immolation are no strangers to Extreme Metal music and have toured countless times with Cannibal Corpse, so they are defiantly in their comfort zone tonight.
There was a pretty decent crowd for the first band, however, at this point, the venue seemed like it was already full. So, a lot of sweat and chanting was to be expected. Immolation kick off the show to support their latest release Acts Of God released back in 2022.
You get what you expect from this band: high-energy shredding, top-notch drum fills, and enough moshing to last a lifetime.
Ross Dolan’s vocals are so low and clear that you can feel the bass of his growl coursing through your body. Death Metal vocals live can often end up being buried in the mix, however tonight was not the case.
Immolation play a good mix of old and new songs to give the crowd a bit of diversity. This was a great show from these professionals. It was my first time seeing them, and I was far from disappointed.
Schizophrenia
The first band of the evening were Schizophrenia, a fresh and upcoming band from Antwerp who gave the crowd a good indication of what was to come tonight.
The vibe is chaotic as we are instantly met with blast beats, shredding guitars, hallowing solos and plenty of headbanging. Schizophrenia interacts well with the audience, giving them a good chance to show how the younger bands are just as capable of producing high-quality Metal just like the legends that will follow them tonight.
The crowd digs this band very well, as there is already a sea of crowd surfers during their first few songs. The original songs are a lot of fun. However, halfway through the set, the audience is asked if they would like to hear a cover from either Morbid Angel or Slayer.
Slayer was chosen for tonight, and they proceeded to do the band justice by making a fantastic cover of Necrophiliac.
All in all, Schizophrenia were a great first act for tonight as we prepared for the Legends of Death Metal to take over the stage for the rest of the night.
